Infiniti Timeline on Wikipedia

While looking for some information on the evolution of the Infiniti QX56 I came across a great info graphic on Wikipedia that details the Timeline of all Infiniti vehicles.

If you have ever seen an Infiniti G20 or Infiniti Q45 and wondered what ever  happened to that model you can see on the Timeline when it was introduced, phased out or transitioned to a new model.

This Timeline of Infiniti vehicles has links to each vehicle’s Wikipedia page and some great information about each vehicle.  Check out the original Wikipedia page for the image with the links embedded.

World’s First Backup Collision Intervention Technology: Infiniti JX Luxury Crossover, IPL G Convertible

Two New Performance Luxury Vehicles Set to Join the Infiniti Lineup in Spring 2012, Backup Collision Intervention System Joins List of Infiniti Innovations –

Hindsight may be 20-20, but only the innovative Backup Collision Intervention system, introduced by Infiniti today at the Los Angeles Auto Show, has the ability to detect vehicular cross traffic and other rearward objects while backing up and, if necessary, will automatically apply the brakes to help prevent a collision.

The Backup Collision Intervention system, the latest of many advanced safety and security systems brought to market first in recent years by Infiniti, will be available in spring 2012 on the all-new 2013 Infiniti JX luxury crossover. The 2013 Infiniti JX luxury crossover was unveiled today, along with the new 2013 IPL G Convertible, during a press conference at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Both the Infiniti JX and IPL G Convertible will be on display at the Los Angeles Convention Center when the show opens to the public on Friday, Nov. 18th.  The show runs through Sunday, Nov. 27th. Also on display will be the complete line of 2012 Infiniti vehicles.

“The Los Angeles Auto Show is the perfect venue to host the world debuts of these important new additions to the Infiniti portfolio,” said Infiniti Vice President Ben Poore.  “They represent two different aspects of our line – our first entry into the growing 7-passenger luxury crossover segment and a performance four-seat luxury convertible – yet both are pure Infiniti, challenging the status quo in their respective categories.”

The Infiniti JX – A Bold New Expression of 7-Passenger Luxury

As a fresh alternative to the many flavors of vanilla currently dominating the luxury crossover segment, the stylish Infiniti JX is designed to excel in the areas that luxury crossover buyers desire most – interior flexibility and roominess, safety, and advanced hospitality features.

The JX offers real 3-row utility, plus all the premium features, performance and innovations that Infiniti is known for worldwide.  Along with its standout styling and craftsmanship, the breakthrough JX design offers excellent legroom in all three rows and ample cargo room behind the 3rd row.  In addition, an innovative multi-mode middle seat design provides entry to the 3rd row without removing a 2nd row child seat.

The JX also continues Infiniti’s tradition of developing world’s first technologies, adding a new feature, Backup Collision Intervention (BCI), to the currently available Blind Spot Intervention™ (BSI) system and Around View™ Monitor.  With this technology, when the transmission is in reverse, the JX will help the driver detect crossing vehicles and objects behind the JX and, if necessary, the system can automatically engage the brakes to help avoid a collision.

Among the many other advanced standard and available technologies found throughout the new JX is Infiniti Connection™, a new feature that can automatically synch the owner’s schedule through Google Calendar™ and then provides navigation guidance to appointments – along with multiple other functions. The Infiniti Connection™ system also includes Infiniti Personal Assistant, which offers owners 24-hour personal concierge services, such as arranging dinner reservations, flight changes, or purchase of anniversary gifts, from inside or outside of their Infiniti vehicle.

Offered in both front-wheel drive and with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, the Infiniti JX comes with a standard 265-horsepower 3.5-liter DOHC V6 mated to a sport-tuned Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) to provide high responsiveness and seamless, efficient shifting feel.

The JX is the first Infiniti to utilize a fuel-efficient CVT, addressing the growing desire among luxury crossover drivers to have both responsive performance and good fuel efficiency.  Fuel economy is expected to be rated at 23 mpg Highway.

The Infiniti JX starts at a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $40,450 USD for the JX35 FWD and $41,550 USD for the JX35 AWD model.  Reservations are being taken now at InfinitiUSA.com/all-new-JX.

IPL G Convertible – Seductive Open-Air Style, Enhanced Performance

The 2013 IPL G Convertible, the second model in the Infiniti Performance Line lineup, unleashes performance from a top-down, wide-open, wind-in-your-face perspective.

Like the standard Infiniti G37 Convertible that serves as its foundation, the new IPL G Convertible combines seductive style with a highly engaging driving experience.  The IPL G Convertible’s VQ37HR 3.7-liter V6 engine generates 343 horsepower – an increase of 18 horsepower over the non-IPL G Convertible models – and 273 lb-ft of torque (+6 lb-ft).  It is available with an electronically controlled 7-speed automatic transmission with Downshift Rev Matching and magnesium paddle shifters. The enhancements are not limited to engine performance only.  The IPL G Convertible also features an IPL-tuned suspension and Sport brakes.

Exterior modifications over the stock Infiniti G Convertible include a dramatic front bumper/fascia design with integrated fog lights and black finishers, sculpted side sills and chrome exhaust tips.  Exclusive 19-inch IPL split 7-spoke graphite-finish wheels and low-profile W-rated Bridgestone Potenza RE050A performance tires add a confident stance and road-ready attitude, while its two available exterior colors, Moonlight White and Malbec Black, add to its exclusive jewel-like presence.

The IPL G Convertible’s interior is similarly offered in just two color treatments – Stone and IPL-exclusive Monaco Red – and include red-stitched leather-appointed front sport seats with manual thigh extension and driver’s power torso and thigh support adjustment, red-stitched steering wheel, Silk Obi aluminum trim, power tilt/telescopic steering wheel, iPod interface, IPL-embroidered front seatback and front floor mats, and aluminum trimmed pedals and footrest.

Other standard IPL G Convertible interior features include a 13-speaker Bose® Open Air sound system, Climate-controlled front seats, Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System, Infiniti Voice Recognition for audio navigation, memory system for driver’s seat, steering wheel and outside mirrors, RearView Monitor and Rear Sonar System.

The IPL G Convertible is scheduled to go on sale at Infiniti retailers nationwide in spring 2012.

“With the addition of the new Infiniti JX luxury crossover and IPL G Convertible to our current Infiniti G, Infiniti M, EX, FX and QX models, Infiniti continues to offer one of the freshest and most inspired performance luxury lineups in the business,” said Poore.  “Discerning luxury buyers have more reasons than ever to come experience Infiniti’s Inspired Performance and our welcoming standard of customer care.”

Infiniti G37 Convertible Awarded Wins Plus X Award

When one of the vehicles that we sell at Grubbs Infiniti wins an award we get excited.  When one of our vehicles wins a Plus X Award we get very excited! We have been impressed with the performance and look of the Infiniti G37 Convertible for some time and are glad to see the awards that are being earned.  I don’t think that we are going to be able to display the Plus X Award in our showroom anytime soon.. but we are still proud of this latest award.  Come see for yourself what the news is about.

ROLLE, Switzerland (May 28th, 2010) – The Infiniti G37 Convertible has been awarded one of the prestigious Plus X Awards in the category “Design & High Quality”. According to Jury chairman Frank Kreif the beautiful Japanese-made luxury open Coupe impressed by a design language consistently employed in the G car-line which also lacks neither distinctiveness nor brand recognition in the case of the retractable hardtop version. “Additionally we very much liked the intelligent user guidance of the in-car multimedia system. Other strong attributes of the Infiniti – which contributed to it being given the Plus X Award – were the outstanding finish, the perceived quality and the love of detail in many areas.”

With 144 distinguished jury members, neutral in terms of industry preference, from 32 nations, 40 professional partners and an annual marketing volume of more than four million Euros the Plus X Award is the largest technology, sports and lifestyle competition in the world. There are two separate contests: Products eligible for the Award for technology are selected from the fields of automobiles, home appliances, IT products, car media, power tools or mobile and photo technology. Products which can be submitted for the Plus X Award for sports and lifestyle can be from sportswear, sports/gym equipment and accessories.

The contest, initiated by the marketing agency Media Society Networks, this year celebrates its seventh anniversary. Plus X Awards are presented for outstanding achievements in the categories innovation, high quality, design, ease of use/functionality, ergonomics and ecology.

“One prerequisite of the Plus X Award is that only products with an additional value and a real customer benefit have a chance to win. Because the winning products should make life easier and more enjoyable and at the same time be ecologically sensible”, jury chairman Kreif stressed.

For the fourth time the impressive Plus X Award Night was held at the Cologne Messe (trade centre). On the evening of May 27th several hundred of the most important top decision-makers from industry, retail and media gathered to honour the winners. For those who couldn’t attend will be able to watch the Award Night on television. ANIXE HD is broadcasting the show on June 3rd (from 8:15 p.m.) Europe-wide and free-to-air. Already in 2009 the ultra high resolution HD format provided fascinating pictures of the party – only to be topped this year by even more advanced 3D HD technology offering a stereoscopic view of the event.

Falling in Love Again – 2010 Infiniti G37 Convertible

Sometimes after a car has been out for a few months we forget about all of the great things that got us interested in the first place. Now is a good time to take a look at some of the models that have been out for a few months but you might have forgotten about how nice these cars really are. Here is a reminder of why most auto reviewers have written spectacular reviews of the 2010 Infiniti G37 Convertible.

2010 Infiniti G37 Convertible offers luxury, performance and fun

June 3, 2010| Lary Coppola

I confess, I fell in love with the Infiniti G37 convertible the first time I drove it. Of course, I was cruising down the Pacific Coast Highway just north of Malibu, with the top down, the long version of the Stones, “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” blasting crystal clear from the premium, 13-speaker Bose Open Air audio system — after descending from an exhilarating ride through the legendary hills and canyons to the northeast, that began in Beverly Hills.

I recently had the opportunity to put it through its paces again during a week-long test drive during a rare sunny wee2010 Infiniti G37 Convertiblek in the Pacific Northwest. That simply reaffirmed my love affair with this car.

Offered in two models, the G37 Convertible and Sport 6MT, several option packages can totally personalize your G37. There have just been minimal refinements between the 2010 and the original 2009 model, since Infiniti got it pretty much right the first time.

Walkaround: Unlike other cars in this segment, this G37 was designed specifically as a convertible — not as a G coupe with a 3-piece, clamshell-design mechanical top. Everything from the windshield back, including a revised rear suspension system, and special body reinforcements that deliver a tight, vibration-free ride at any speed, were designed specifically for this car.

Infiniti’s design priority was to retain the coupe profile with the top up. While the roofline is different from the fastback look of the coupe, it’s still attractive and done better than most rivals. Infiniti designers also kept the coupe’s proportions, not lengthening the rear deck to accommodate the folded-down top. The rear fascia and wraparound taillights are also exclusive to the convertible.

The flowing front fender curves, double-arch grille, wave-style aluminum hood, and L-shaped High-Intensity Discharge (HID) bi-functional xenon headlights mirror the coupe.

Also offered is Infiniti’s “self-healing” Scratch Shield paint in eight colors. In short — top up or down — the G37 is pretty hot looking.

Interior: The driver-oriented cockpit is a combination of craftsmanship and sophistication, featuring a one-piece steering wheel and gauge setup that moves as a unit so the electroluminescent white-and-violet instrumentation is always situated for maximum visibility no matter what the wheel position.

The double hand-stitched leather-covered steering wheel features standard audio and cruise controls, with magnesium paddle shifters available on the 7-speed automatic transmission (G37 Convertible with Sport Package only).

Special Japanese-inspired Silk Obi aluminum trim is featured, with genuine African Rosewood also a choice. Leather-appointed, heated 8-way power driver/passenger seats are standard, with Climate-Controlled Seats (heating and cooling functions) available with the Premium Package. Also standard is Infiniti’s Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition, and an Adaptive Dual Zone Climate Control System. The advanced A/C system automatically adjusts to provide maximum comfort with the top up or down.

There’s two audio systems available. Standard is a 6-speaker AM/FM/6CD with MP3 playback capability, Radio Data System (RDS) and optional Sirius/XM® Satellite Radio.

The other is the killer 13-speaker Bose® Open Air Sound system, featuring microphones that automatically optimize EQ settings for open/closed top positions. The system’s special Bose® front seat personal speakers, mounted in the head restraints, deliver superior front audio quality regardless of the top position. An iPod interface is also included.

A Bluetooth hands-free Phone System is also available along with and a 9.3GB Music Box Hard Drive with CompactFlash® slot.

A standard 7-inch multi-function color computer display, controls the available backup camera, voice-recognition navigation, XM NavTraffic® with Real-Time Traffic information (XM® subscription required, sold separately) as well as the climate controls and all other functions and settings. It tops the center stack above Infiniti’s signature analog clock.

Under The Hood: The G Convertible features Infiniti’s outstanding 3.7-liter, 325-horse, V6 powerplant with VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift), rated at 267 lb-ft of torque.

The VVEL system combines hydraulic-controlled variable valve timing and electronically controlled variable valve lift to improve not only performance, but also fuel efficiency, with cleaner emissions.

The V6 is married to either an electronically controlled 7-speed automatic transmission with manual mode, downshift rev matching, Drive Sport (DS) mode and Adaptive Shift Control (ASC), with available magnesium paddle shifters; or a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission on the Sport 6MT. I drove both, and unusual for me, preferred the automatic.

Behind The Wheel: The Infiniti G37 convertible is a blast to drive — top up or down. Built on Infiniti’s FM (Front Mid-ship) platform, the exceptional front/rear weight balance creates a rigid, stable foundation for the 4-wheel independent suspension. Ride and handling are exceptional — especially for a convertible, since the usual body twist and vibration are missing. Steering is responsive courtesy of the power speed-sensing system. Sport-tuned steering is offered on the Sport 6MT and G37 Convertible with Sport Package. Standard on all G Convertibles is Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with cancel switch and Traction Control System (TCS).

Acceleration is exceptional under all conditions, with braking provided by standard 4-wheel vented discs with 4-channel, 4-sensor ABS, Electronic Brake force Distribution, and Brake Assist.

Also available is Infiniti’s Intelligent Cruise Control with Preview Braking, which assists in maintaining a consistent following distance from the vehicle ahead. It also identifies sudden braking situations with laser sensors that determine distance and relative speed of the vehicle ahead and “pre-pressurizes” the Brake Assist system before the driver steps on the brake pedal. I’m not a fan of these systems in general, but this one works better than most.

Whines: None worth mentioning.

Bottom Line: This is an exceptional, well-though out, high-quality automobile in absolutely every respect. It’s beautiful, fast, luxurious and comfortable. At some point, I’ll own this car. If you love convertibles like I do, drive it, and you’ll want one too.
