Texas Stadium No Longer on My Drive to / from Work

Over the past few days as I drive by Texas Stadium on the way to and from work it’s been in the back of my mind that Texas Stadium will no longer be a part of our lives come Sunday. The memories of many Sunday’s (and some Monday’s) spent tail gating and watching the Dallas Cowboys play in Texas Stadium are all we will have left after the stadium is demolished.

I will always remember the age of Texas Stadium as it’s the same age that I am – 38. That seems awfully young to me but I guess in the modern era of mega stadiums there was no facelift (no Jerry Jones jokes please) or paint job that would have been big enough to modernize Texas Stadium. You could knock down the Cotton Bowl tomorrow and I wouldn’t have any emotions tied up in it. I have never been to a Cotton Bowl game or seen very many events there. After spending the last few months driving by Texas Stadium while commuting from Dallas I really am going to miss seeing the stadium there.

Yes, I might be a little too old to be getting all sentimental about a big piece of concrete and metal… But Texas Stadium is what we will always consider to be the “true” home of the Dallas Cowboys.

So this Friday when I am driving home from work I might have to pull over on 183 for a few moments to say goodbye to Texas Stadium one last time. You will be missed…
