JX Preview Night Recap

Like any proud parent, I’m convinced that my children are the brightest, the best-looking and most wonderful kids in the world.  I have a pretty similar outlook when it comes to Infiniti’s amazing lineup of luxury vehicles.  I think they’re some of the sharpest, most well designed cars on the road today.  So when I got my first look at the new 2013 Infiniti JX, I felt like a proud father as I studied it’s sophisticated interior, the impressive styling and all the gadgets that would make any tech lover’s head spin.  I started thinking about how many people you could fit inside and how much storage it offered.  This is the kind of  vehicle that makes you sit up and pay attention.  Your neighbors will want to come watch a movie on the rear-seat DVD system or chill with the three zone climate control.  And, trust me, you’ll be right there, smiling, showing it to the world.  Well, it looks like I won’t be the only person dying to show off Infiniti’s newest offspring.  When we gave our customers a preview on Tuesday night, the reviews were great.

Rob and Lori Bosso said, “The JX offers all the room we want.  The value of it for the size is outstanding.  To get a seven passenger, you would normally spend a lot more.”

Gus dropped by from Colleyville and said, “They’ve done an excellent job with the design and engineering.  It’s really impressive and a departure on regular SUV lines.  It’s going to be very successful in the luxury car market.  I’m a tall guy and I need more room than most people and the JX accommodates me.”

Barry from Ft Worth put it simply and said, “It’s a good looking car, just like the rest of the Infiniti line.”

Barry, I couldn’t agree more.   I can’t wait for everyone to meet the new kid in early April.

Infiniti Hybrid Breaks Speed Record

Infiniti understands that many auto lovers turn their noses up at the idea of driving a hybrid vehicle. Still, the company hopes to change that situation with their new M35h hybrid—especially now that the sedan has set a new record for the fastest hybrid vehicle in production, according to the Guinness World Record.

The M35h was well equipped to break records when journalist Tim Pollard pulled it up to the starting line of the Santa Pod drag strip in the United Kingdom. The hybrid has powered by a 3.5-liter V-7 and an electric motor that produced a combined 360 horsepower. The Infiniti M35h was overseen by the Guinness World Records as it finished its trip down the drag strip with a quarter-mile time of 13.9 seconds. The M35h had a speed of 103.5 mph, which earned it bragging rights to the title of the world’s fastest hybrid. The vehicle has earned a tentative spot in the 2013 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records.

The 2013 Lexus GS is one of the top challengers confronting the M35h. The recently-released Lexus GS is powered by a 3.5 liter V-6 engine that teams with an electric motor for 338 horsepower. The Lexus GS 450h claims a time of 5.6 seconds 0-60, which is uncomfortably close to the time of 0-62 mph in 5.5 claimed by the Infinity M35h.

The Infiniti is capable of operating on electricity alone up to 62 mph, and still manages an impressive 27/32 mpg city/highway. Lexus is planning to improve the fuel economy on the 2013 GS 450h by at least 30 percent, and perhaps more. This suggests an official mpg rating of about 28/32.

Tom Pollard, the journalist who drove the record-breaking vehicle, commented that “the Infiniti M35h proves that hybrids can be fast as well as frugal. At Santa Pod you could feel the instant torque of the electric motor away from standstill – the car just leapt off the line.” He added that he was impressed by “the M’s duality of purpose: it might be quick, but it’s also comfy and very easy to drive.”

Infiniti Challenges Lexus, Lets Fans Decide On Media

Infiniti’s new “Challenger” campaign, via TBWAChiatDay, which launched last week with a 60-second anthem spot positioning Infiniti as an innovator and iconoclast in the premium segment, is continuing with a more aggressive creative and a social-media component in which consumers help decide the ads’ media rotation. The new “Challenger” chapter comprises a pair of 15-second spots that will not even air on TV until social fans of the luxury auto brand decide which of the two ads deserves the heavier media rotation.

The new spots also target Lexus. One of the spots, “Lullaby,” shows an infant in a cradle looking up at a mobile of suspended paper cutouts of luxury cars. “There’s luxury that lulls,” says the voiceover as one of the paper cars bearing the Lexus grill ornament swings past. Cut to a shot of an Infiniti M sedan in full slide. “And there’s luxury that thrills.” The other spot, “Spa,” says luxury can be a sedative (shot of a man and woman in the driver and passenger seat of a car identified as a Lexus, with avocado muck on their faces and cucumber slices over their eyes) or a stimulant.

Right now, the ads are only on the brand’s Facebook page, YouTube Channel and Twitter. Infiniti is asking its Facebook fans which spot they want to see most frequently on air; vote count will determine the media weight of each of the two spots on network, cable and spot market TV starting July 18, and running through August.

An Infiniti spokesperson says the point is “basically to get our fans and customers engaged in what we are doing; we are taking a different direction in the commercials and in doing so we want to involve fans in the process and let them actively be a part of it.” He said there is another spot in the pipeline.

Said Ben Poore, VP of Infiniti Americas, in a statement: “We believe in telling compelling stories with an attitude that feels more energetic and optimistic than traditional luxury brands. Our commercials are bold, and serve as our proclamation of confidence in our ability to move our customers emotionally as well as physically.

The automaker is also in the midst of teasing the 2013 Infiniti JX crossover with sneak peeks online, prior to its reveal on Aug. 18 at the Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach in Monterey, Calif. The “Power of 7″ teaser campaign on social media sites like Twitter includes a sweepstakes offering a trip for two to the lifestyle event and luxury auto show.

10 Tips on Winterizing Your Infiniti

It’s that time of the year again and winter is just around the corner, are you ready? Whether you live in Montana or Texas there are certain precautions that need to be done to winterize your Infiniti. While we are in Texas there are some of you that will be traveling to colder regions this holiday season, make sure that you are prepared. Here are 10 things you can to do ensure that you’re ready.

1. Make Sure The Antifreeze Is Just Right: You shouldn’t have to mess with your coolant unless you have a leak (or high miles) but to be safe make sure that you get a flush and fill because mixing coolants can have bad side effects, such as turning to gel. It’s best to have a trained Infiniti service tech to take a look at it.

2. Examine Your Belts and Hoses: Make sure to get your belts and hoses checked during full service. Cold weather can play havoc on belts and hoses and your attention is required.

3. Get an Oil Change: Before traveling to your Mothers for a cold Christmas get an oil change. Not just any oil change for colder weather you have to pay attention to the viscosity of the oil. Oil tends to thicken as it gets colder, and if it’s too thick it won’t do the best job of keeping your engine lubricated. Again, check with a trained Infiniti service tech before traveling north for the winter, just to be safe.

4. Can You See: Make sure that you have your windshield wiper fluid topped of, you can use deicer, works wonders. Also, check your blades and window defroster. Make sure that you carry a scraper with you as well, at home you may keep your Infiniti in the garage but when you’re away, that’s not always the case.

5. Check Your Battery: Don’t bet on finding somebody in the middle of a blizzard to give you jump start, be prepared before it happens, so that it doesn’t happen. You know what they say, an ounce of maintenance is worth a pound of cure. if your battery is more than three years old, have a trained Infiniti service tech take a look at it for you. They will check the water levels, for corrosion and the batteries ability to hold a charge.

6. Check Tire Pressure: In order to insure proper traction you need proper tire pressure, look on the tire wall for proper PSI. The air pressure in your tires has likely dropped as the weather has gotten colder, so it’s important to see where things stand now. (You can generally expect that you’ll lose 1 pound per square inch whenever the temperature drops by 10 degrees Fahrenheit.)

7. Do You Have an Emergency Kit: If not, you really should. Here are a few things that you can store in your trunk during the winter months, especially if a trip up to the snowy north is in your future.

  • a blanket
  • extra boots and gloves
  • an extra set of warm clothes
  • extra water and food, including hard candies
  • an ice scraper
  • a small shovel
  • a flashlight
  • windshield washer fluid
  • windshield wipers
  • flares
  • jumper cables
  • a tool kit
  • tire chains
  • a tire gauge
  • a spare tire with air in it
  • tire-changing equipment
  • a first-aid kit
  • paper towels
  • a bag of abrasive material such as sand, salt or non-clumping kitty litter, which can provide additional traction if a tire gets stuck in snow.
  • Also, keep the gas tank as full as you can to prevent the gas lines from freezing.

8. Prepare Yourself In Case You Get Stranded: Below is Reprinted from Here

DURING –

If you are stranded during a winter emergency take the following measures to increase your chances of survival.

  • Do not pull off on the shoulder of the highway, or on an exit ramp. Each year, many cars are struck from behind by other traffic, or snowplows. If you cannot get to a rest area, or populated exit, pull off the exit ramp and then park on the entrance ramp. Vehicles entering the highway are going much slower than those exiting.
  • Major truck stops are excellent places to shelter from a storm. They provide restaurants, groceries, even private showers, as well as telephones and up-to-date weather bulletins. For the most part, truckers are friendly, courteous and helpful.
  • If you are stranded, stay with your car. It is your best shelter. Do not attempt to walk to safety unless your destination is in sight.
  • As soon as you have pulled off in a safe place, get whatever survival gear you have out of the trunk and into the passenger compartment. If possible, keep water from freezing by placing it near a heater vent, or covering it with a blanket.
  • Run the engine and heater 10 minutes per hour for warmth. Open a window, at least an inch, on the downwind side of the car to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • Periodically check your tailpipe to be sure it is not covered with snow. Once the snow has stopped, brush the snow off of the top and rear deck of your car to make it easier to see. Work slowly to avoid perspiring. It is much harder to stay warm when you are wet.

AFTER:

  • Stay with your car until help arrives.
  • If you must leave your car put a note inside the front window telling rescuers where you have gone.

9. Four-Wheel Drive: Be sure that your system engages and disengages. Again you can ask a trained Infiniti service tech to take a look for you.

10. Consider Chains or Snow Tires: Depending where you are and whether or not there are a hills you might want to consider purchasing snow tires or brining a pair of chains along with you.
