Sic ‘em Bears

Baylor University, Alma Mater of George Grubbs III,  has both it’s men’s and women’s basketball teams in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen this year!! So don’t be surprised if you hear someone (most likely George) yelling “Sic ‘em Bears” while you are in the service area or on the showroom floor!

If you have been watching the NCAA Tournament you will have noticed several Infiniti ads featuring the newest Infiniti, the seven passenger Infiniti JX.  Infiniti has chosen the NCAA Basketball Tournament to feature their latest vehicle and we hope  you enjoy watching the tournament as much as we have.

Baylor has had great women’s and men’s basketball teams for several years and the women’s team is getting as much, or more attention then the men’s lately with the performances of superstar, Brittney Griner (one of the only women to EVER dunk a basketball).

Last night she showed off her awesome athleticism with a dunk over Florida defenders to help the Baylor Bears advance to the Sweet Sixteen.  Here is the video.

If you haven’t seen the latest commercials that are airing during the NCAA Tournament you can see them all here:

Grubbs Infiniti – NCAA Bracket Challenge Update

At Grubbs Infiniti we have been “inspired” by the marketing campaign and partnership developed between Infiniti and the NCAA. At Grubbs Infiniti we have been working to integrate the components of the National Infiniti campaign with our local efforts and have enjoyed doing so.

Infiniti Encouraging Dealer Participation in NCAA Bracket Challenge

Infiniti encouraged employees of dealerships nationwide to participate in the Bracket Challenge and set up an internal contest that each dealership could participate in. In the non Infiniti employee Bracket Challenge the winner received a 2011 Infiniti M.  I was disappointed to learn that I can’t win the 2011 Infiniti M but at least I can beat my co-workers .

At Grubbs Infiniti  the “Bracket Challenge” was announced at our February monthly meeting and was greeted with some good smack talking and predictions on who is going to have the best bracket.

Update on Infiniti Dallas Bracket

The stakes were not too high in the Infiniti Dealership NCAA Bracket Challenge but the winner’s dealership receives a catered lunch compliments of Infiniti. George Grubbs III was leading the Bracket Challenge through the Sweet Sixteen but got knocked out of the top rankings going into the Elite 8.  Most of us made the same mistake and picked Kansas to win the entire tournament but after they were upset most of our brackets fell apart.

After taking a look at the results on Tuesday morning after the Duke win over Butler it looks like Grubbs Infiniti came close (like Butler)  but didn’t win the Bracket Challenge.  Steve Malley, Finance Director at Grubbs Infiniti, finished second but was beat out by Mike Wise who I believe is at Crest Infiniti.  Congratulations to Mike, Steve and of course Duke and Butler.

Not sure that a 5 seed like Butler is really a “true” Cinderella story but it was very impressive to watch them take on the traditional basketball powerhouse, the Duke Blue Devils.  Duke came into the tournament a #1 seed and if the past is any predictor of the future, #1 seeds have done well the past few years.  True underdogs, like my alma mater, George Mason, don’t have too much of a chance against #1 seeds like Duke who could put in their second string players and fair well.  But we always love an underdog vs traditional powerhouse.  Ratings wise, a traditional powerhouse against an underdog can really get some viewers.  However, a Duke vs North Carolina finals or game between two traditional powerhouses would fair better with the TV viewing audience.

Baylor Moves On in NCAA Tournament

The remaining Texas team in the NCAA Tournament is the Baylor Bears (came in as a 3 seed) and they are set to play St. Mary’s on Friday in Houston, TX.  The fact that Baylor is playing in their home state of Texas should give them a nice home court advantage with students and alumni traveling to the game.

At Grubbs Infiniti we have been “inspired” by the marketing campaign and partnership developed between Infiniti and the NCAA. At Grubbs Infiniti we have been working to integrate the components of the National Infiniti campaign with our local efforts and have enjoyed doing so.

Now that the selections have been made we are very excited and inspired by the inclusion of 7 Texas teams in the NCAA Tournament this year.   Only Baylor made it to the Sweet 16 but that’s no reason to stop cheering or checking your brackets if you are a Texan.

Update on Infiniti “Dallas” Bracket
Our own, George Grubbs III, is in 2nd place in the Infiniti Dallas NCAA bracket and I am WAY back in 19th place out of about 22.  So not doing so well. I simply picked the lowest seeds for the entire tournament but with a few upsets that really killed my bracket.

Inspiring: 7 Texas Teams in NCAA Tournament

The NCAA Division I Tournament starts this week and Infiniti, the official vehicle of the NCAA Tournament, will take center stage (or is it half court) during the next few weeks of March Madness.

Infiniti has launched an integrated media campaign centered around the NCAA Division I Tournament in addition to the SEC (South Eastern Conference) and Big 10 Conferences. The first phase was launched in January to promote Infiniti’s G line of vehicles. This next chapter focuses on Infiniti’s flagship M line, the new model of which goes on sale this month. But both campaigns are also an effort to reposition the brand.

We are going to be rooting each one on as they try to make it into the Sweet Sixteen, Elite 8, Final Four and maybe even a National Championship.  I was at the Final Four when my Alma Mater, George Mason, made it into the Final Four and I know what a thrill that was.  Grubbs Infiniti wishes all of the teams that made it into the tournament the best and especially those 7 teams from Texas that made it.  Everything is bigger and better in Texas!!!

Texas Teams in NCAA Tournament
Baylor (3 Seed)
Houston (13 Seed)
Sam Houston State (14 Seed)
Texas A&M (5 Seed)
University of North Texas (15 Seed)
University of Texas (8 Seed)
University of Texas – El Paso (UTEP) (12 Seed)

Infiniti’s Future is the M

“Infiniti’s future is the M” Hmmm.. as I review this blog entry I wonder if the title of this blog should be “Infiniti’s Future is the M?” Over the past few weeks the Internet has been a buzz regarding the New 2011 Infiniti M and questions regarding the Infiniti Q line of cars.  If the bloggers are correct and the signs are that they are the M series is the future of Infiniti and the Q line will no longer be included in the Infiniti line up of vehicles.  The Q hasn’t been produced for a few years so it’s probably time to consider the Q no longer part of the future lineup of Infinitis.

Of course I don’t have any inside information since I work at a dealership and not directly for the manufacturer.  However, the bloggers are making sense and after seeing the latest ad from Infiniti for the 2011 M (the commercial debuts before tip-off of the NCAA Tournament tomorrow) I can understand why the writing on the wall might be true.  Also, with the successful G series and M series there might not be room for the Q line which might have seen it’s last car roll off the production line.

But again, we are Grubbs Infiniti don’t know what the grand plan is for the Infiniti Q any more than the bloggers do. Well, at least I don’t.

UNT Going to the NCAA Tournament

The 72nd Annual NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament starts next week and we at Grubbs Infiniti wanted to congratulate the University of North Texas on their winning of the Sun Belt Conference Championship.  This win over Troy (66 – 63) in the Sun Belt title game gave UNT an automatic birth in the 65 team NCAA Division I Tournament.

North Texas (24-8) has won 11 straight and is heading into the NCAA Tournament with a head of steam.  We won’t know the final brackets until “Selection Sunday” on March 14th when the final teams are selected and brackets are set but we wish UNT the best and hope they go far!

Infiniti has partnered with the NCAA Basketball Tournament and will be giving away a 2011 Infiniti M.

What does Infiniti and the NCAA Basketball Tournament have to do with one another? This year Infiniti is a major sponsor of the tournament and a presenting sponsor of the “Bracket Challenge”.

The NCAA Tournament or “March Madness” as it’s affectionately been dubbed has been elevated to one of the top sporting events in the United States.  Starting with the conference tournaments and running all the way through to the Final 4 College Basketball takes center stage during the month of March.  With the major professional sports of football and baseball in their off season and hockey and basketball not yet into the playoffs it gives the NCAA an opportunity to highlight the tournament across the nation.
